Is there such a thing as past life therapy? Thirty years ago, such an idea sounded strange, although various hypnotists were working on developing a model for this, even as early as in the 1950’s.

Surveys show that about 25 per cent to 33 percent of the US population, whether affiliated with a specific religion or not, believe in reincarnation. The Hindu and Buddhist and other religions , even some stories in Christianity, basically indicate that the soul is eternal, and travels on to other lifetimes, learning lessons along the way, in this school called Earth.

I became interested in these concepts after having lost some dear loved ones, including my own daughter. I tried out some techniques on myself, then was fortunate to be able to get intensive training on working with others, first from a man named Henry Bolduc, who was affiliated with the Edgar Cayce organization called Association for Research and Enlightenment, and then later from Brian Weiss, MD, who is the renowned author of “Man Lives, Many Masters”and many other books. Another influential teacher was Roger Woolger, PhD, author of “Healing Your Past Lives”. I was also blessed to have a mentor in doing this work, Tom Chamberlain, who led me onto many books and resources which increased my knowledge base on this topic.

Having worked on this myself, and having guided many clients on such a journey, I think it has many benefits. For me, it seemed to acknowledge some parts of myself in new ways. It helped me get greater perspective on certain traits or troubling attributes, and find some healing and letting go, even of things that did not seem to be “of this lifetime”. In short, it helped me to find greater purpose for this life journey.

In working with others, people seemed to gain profound understanding of certain patterns, in self or in relationship with others. They were able to let go of issues not pertinent in the Now. They got some greater understanding of why they were attracted to or repelled from certain times in history. They got insight into what next steps to take, in a certain stage of their lives. To summarize, in essence, they gained a broader understanding of parts of themselves.

A Past Life Regression session goes something like this: It begins with some form of eye closure, then progressive relaxation, and some techniques to deepen your state. Then, an imaginary journey backwards in time, through this lifetime, then going deeper and farther back. A scene begins to emerge, in which you see on sense yourself in earlier times and places, bringing in as much detail as comes to mind. This could be a pleasant scene, or maybe not..From this and other scenes, you gather some concepts and lessons from that particular journey of the soul, possibly some of which could bring explanation or meaning, or healing, to topics that are bewildering or emotional in the current life.

If you think you might like to experience a Past Life Regression, talk with me about it. I believe that my extensive clinical background helps to facilitate deeper work with underlying and salient issues pertinent to mental health today.
